The Value of Your Suffering in Another Person’s Life

Recently I read the following on Facebook,

We were blessed to have [our baby] on earth for two birthdays. Today, he would be six years old. I can only dream of who he would be today. I can’t put into words how much I miss him. Mommy’s sweet baby boy.

Can you try to feel the reaction you might have if you had been through the loss of a child, and this person put an arm around you and told you she had been in your shoes? How valuable might this friend be to you during your time of suffering?

When loss happens to us, which it will, how kind of the Lord to place people in our lives who have a sense of suffering and practical compassion for the sufferer (Hebrews 4:15-16).

This lady had suffered great loss. She had been right where you are or where you will be in the future, and somehow she was able to see the blessings and goodness of God in her darkest trials (Genesis 50:20; Romans 8:28; 1 Peter 2:21).

When she tells you God will come through (Romans 8:31), you muster up the strength for that big breath and you take your next step in faith and hope.

The trials we go through are narratives written by God proving His provision, His love, and that He will come through for us. Our suffering in a fallen world is our message and opportunity to share the fame of the Lord with a fellow sufferer (Hebrews 11:32-38).

We can choose to be open and honest while fusing together the experiences we’ve had with the Scriptures we live to share. We have what it takes to move past religious talk and impact other souls right where they are so they can see Christ.

We can live out Scripture by carrying another’s burden long enough to allow them to catch their breath, pick themselves up, and walk down the path that’s been traced on their dial. That’s the goal, right?

Galatians 6:2 says “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ,” but then just a few lines down in verse 5, we read, “for each will have to bear his own load”.

We can’t walk through someone’s trial for them, but we can take the experiences and trials that God has allowed to pass through our lives and use them to speak into someone else. We can temporarily carry or lighten a burden and give strength to a heart when it needs it most.

We can show someone that they aren’t alone. Our journey is our connection to another soul in need. It’s literally Christ’s hands and feet. It’s you; it’s me. Being exactly what we are called to be by our Maker and Heavenly Father.
